Facilitating access to naturalist collections and related data

Recolnat, the national network of naturalist collections

Recolnat
The French national network of naturalist collections
Récolnat is the national infrastructure that provides access to natural history collections (botany, zoology, palaeontology, geology) to facilitate their use in all areas of scientific research. Managed by the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), its ambitious aim is to create a collective catalogue of natural history collections in France, by coordinating a network of people with a wide range of skills and expertise. Récolnat has been certified as a research infrastructure (RI) and has been listed as such on the national roadmap of the Ministry of Research since 2016.

    Expertise and training

Through its missions, Récolnat makes it possible to structure the working practices of a community of collection managers across a range of fields, such as description, digitisation and access to naturalist collections.

    Historical

Récolnat is the result of a strategic and scientific commitment to structure descriptive data from natural science collections, to make them accessible as part of an open science approach, and to innovate by creating unprecedented digital corpuses.
